To prospective students, one of the many attractive qualities Stockton possesses is that even first-year students can have their cars on campus. While this may help students make the transition from high school to the independence of college, the traffic on campus makes parking rather limited. Although parking can sometimes feel like a competitive sport it is a part of the campus culture, and is even addressed in the University鈥檚 Facilities Master Plan.

Parking lots are labeled as residential, commuter, faculty/staff, and general. These categories might seem straightforward, but the parking situation on campus can be as unpredictable as the deer on Vera King Farris Drive. Stories are told of first-year students rushing out early on Monday mornings to move their cars from the commuter lots in front of the first-year housing buildings to the residential parking in Lot 8 before they are ticketed. And every day, vehicles circle, looking for a coveted close parking spot.

In early years, cars would line College Drive when the parking lots filled. Some students took to hitchhiking - using their notebooks to advertise their destination. More recently, campus buses shuttle students from Parking Lot 8 and North Lot to the residential and academic buildings in Galloway and Atlantic City.
