The local airwaves of 91.7 FM are hosted by WLFR, otherwise known as Lake Fred Radio. The station got its start as Stockton State Radio before 1975, and was housed in Cabin 2 by the lake, adjacent to Housing I. In 1984, the station officially started broadcasting as Lake Fred Radio, and since 2004, listeners can even enjoy the programming online. The current broadcasting range can be heard as far out as Buena and Woodbine and helps to entertain and inform the local southern New Jersey region.

WLFR has been a catalyst for the Communications program, the student body, and the community at large as an alternative to commercial radio. Its music selection reaches beyond the top 100 hits on most conventional airwaves, and students can even host their own talk show segments. Moreover, the state-of-the-art Megaseg is available as an alternative to provide a catalog of interesting music selections in between disc jockeys.

The studio is home to Stockton Now, a monthly news magazine highlighting the people and programs at the University.
