A Year in Art, One Medium at a Time

The 快猫成版视频 Art Gallery provides students, staff, faculty, area schools, artists, and the community-at-large with an opportunity to experience contemporary and historical art exhibitions and related programming of the highest quality.

Exhibitions by artists Bruce Garrity and Chung-Fan Chang were on display from Sept. 5 鈥 Nov. 14, 2018.

Garrity鈥檚 work, Projected Memory, included thirty paintings and six drawings focused on the studio and landscape. Chung-Fan鈥檚 installation, KITE XI included landscape painting, works on paper, wall installation (ink drawing directly on the drywall), tape paintings and a video.

The gallery hosted work by seven students for the Senior Art Show Dec. 2-13, 2018, that highlighted many different types of art including painting, photography, illustration, and visual communications. Featured senior student artists were Tanner Egan, Angelina Moise, Kristy Laugois, Samantha Park, Nickolas Cerullo, William Otte and Matthew Featherer.

The work of artists and Stockton professors Mariana Smith and Joseph Podlesnik were on display through March 27. 

Smith鈥檚 collection, 鈥淟iminal Spaces,鈥 explored ideas such as immigration and displacement through miniature paintings, architectural prints and collages. 

Podlesnik鈥檚 photographs, 鈥淎cts of Looking,鈥 emboldened his philosophy that photos are not solely pieces of documentation, but opportunities to comment on or re-enact perception itself.   

The 2019 BFA Senior Exhibition that showcased the art of 20 seniors was displayed April 7-25. Their work included painting, photography, sculpture and visual communications.

 

Stockton Celebrates 鈥48 Blocks Atlantic City鈥

The third annual 鈥48 Blocks Atlantic City,鈥 a 48-hour community celebration of the arts & culture of the city encompassing 48 projects within the 48 blocks of Atlantic City, was held June 21-23, 2019.

The event included performances and interactive workshops at several sites in the city, including Venice Park, Brighton Park, O鈥橠onnell Park, Brown鈥檚 Park, the Noyes Arts Garage and Dante Hall; and debuted Mural Jitney Tours. 

48 Blocks Atlantic City is a program of the Atlantic City Arts Foundation, in partnership with 快猫成版视频. ACAF programming is funded in part by the NJ State Council on the Arts, a partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Students Get Immersed in Greek Culture

Ten 快猫成版视频 seniors had the experience of a lifetime visiting Greece during May, as part of their Greece: Geography, Culture and Tourism course. The class, taught by Daniel Moscovici, associate professor of Environmental Science and Geology, focused on a variety of environmental aspects about Greece including cuisine, geography, urban-planning, wildlife, tourism, economics, culture, transportation, migration and culminated in an eight-day trip abroad.

The students, from various majors, immersed themselves in an array of activities during their stay such as visiting different types of markets, hiking scenic terrain, visiting museums, and kayaking to Agistri Island to partake in a beach clean-up.

Murphy Writing Celebrates 25th Anniversary

The  program began 25 years ago in Peter Murphy鈥檚 living room.

On Nov. 7, 2018, it celebrated its 25th anniversary with a at 快猫成版视频, the home of Murphy Writing for the last five years.

鈥淲e run workshops for ordinary people and we create a community that supports each other,鈥 Murphy said. 鈥淭hat is why people keep coming back.鈥

Murphy created the workshops when he realized there was never enough time in the average person鈥檚 life to sit down and write. He had started renting a hotel room one weekend a month to write. Seeing how well this worked, he invited others to join him. Within 10 years, as many as 200 people from all over the country attended each of his getaways and workshops.

 

Cerullo
Nickolas Cerullo stands before his art, which was displayed in the 快猫成版视频 Art Gallery in December 2018. Cerullo was one of seven students featured in the Senior Art Show.
3D chairs
Students in Associate Professor of Art Jedediah Morfit's class "The Designed Object" were charged with not just designing a chair, but also building and assembling it, using the University's CNC router. The results were displayed in the lounge in lower K Wing, where visitors were invited to "have a seat" and try them out.
Stockapella
Stockapella, one of Stockton's a capella choir groups, hit all the right notes at the M&T Bank Glee: A Capella Competition on April 13, 2019, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, taking home second place. Stockapella also performed at the 快猫成版视频 Scholarship Benefit Gala on May 4.
