Community Resource Fair Broadens Appeal Beyond Just Vets
Lucila Perez knows asking for help can be intimidating.
鈥淎 lot of times I have been in situations where I鈥檝e needed help, and I just simply don鈥檛 know where to begin searching for that help,鈥 said the 30-year-old Psychology major from Mays Landing.
That鈥檚 the primary reason the Community Resource Fair, said AshleyJones, the assistant director of Stockton's Military and Veteran Success Center. Jones invited more than 30 nonprofit organizations ranging from the Atlantic City Rescue Mission to the Center for Family Services to come to the Campus Center Event Room on March 14 to make the public aware of a variety of assistance programs.
鈥淲ith the way that world is going now, everyone needs help,鈥 she said.
After starting the fair in March 2023 and holding another one in November that was open to the public but had a focus on veterans, Jones realized she needed to broaden the event鈥檚 audience. As part of that, she brought in Stockton鈥檚 Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning as a partner.
鈥淚 know that my job is focused on veterans, but I have the community鈥檚 interest in mind when I do these events,鈥 Jones said. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 what this to just be a veterans resource fair. I want this to be open to the community at-large.鈥

Poll: New Jerseyans of All Ages Believe Artificial Intelligence Needs Oversight
More than one-third (36%) of New Jersey residents think the increased use of artificial intelligence will make their lives worse, and a majority want oversight over the technology, to a Stockton poll released March 11.
A majority of residents (56%) have heard a lot about artificial intelligence, while 36% have heard at least a little. Only 8% said they haven鈥檛 heard anything about AI.
Residents鈥 opinions of AI vary widely depending on the use, but none of the applications asked about garnered majority support. Pluralities of 45% and 44% view the use of smart home devices or facial recognition technology as positive uses of AI, respectively, but more than 70% have a negative view of uses like generating fake images or videos (71%), companies using personal data to customize the content users see online (71%) or using AI in hiring decisions (76%).

New Casino Advancement Program Graduates First Class
Twenty-three of the Atlantic City casino industry鈥檚 鈥渞ising stars鈥 on March 5 as part of the first in-person certificate program created by the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism (LIGHT) at Stockton.
The Integrated Casino Resorts Operations Certificate Program is an eight-week course providing an overview of the casino industry to those interested in getting their first job in the casinos or moving into higher levels of management if they are already working at a property, said LIGHT Faculty Director Jane Bokunewicz, who鈥檚 also a professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Studies at Stockton.
鈥淲hen you work in the casino industry, sometimes you are in one specific area, such as human resources or food and beverage, and you don鈥檛 always get to see the whole big picture,鈥 she said.

Physical Therapy Students, Faculty Shine at Boston Conference
Stockton's Physical Therapy Program at the annual American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) on Feb. 14-17 in Boston, with eight faculty members and 37 students attending.
Notably, Mary Lou Galantino, Distinguished Professor of Physical Therapy, was presented with the Susan J. Mellette
Award for Excellence in Leadership in Cancer Rehabilitation by the Academy of Oncology
Physical Therapy, the most prestigious award given by the Academy. This honor has
only been awarded six times in the last 20 years.
"This award symbolizes the steadfast commitment and growth of our Academy leadership. While I am the 2024 recipient, I must give credit to my dedicated colleagues before me. I am grateful for all my mentors who shine the light on possibilities in cancer rehabilitation clinical practice and research," Galantino reflected. "I am riveted by this honor, especially in light of this amazing woman, physician and compassionate caregiver to many. I am deeply touched by the Oncology Academy's consideration of me, especially since it is in her honor, a woman I aspire to be every day."

Kass Earns All-American Honor at NCAA Championships
Sophomore Kayla Kasseighth in the final of the 800m run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. With the performance, Kass qualified as a First Team All-American.
Kass ran a time of 2:13.92 in the race, which was won by Emma Kelley of Washington University for the second straight year with a meet record and NCAA Division III record of 2:04.13. Kass earned the First Team All-American accolade by finishing in the top eight, a spot that she secured by breaking her own school record with a time of 2:11.02 in the prelims March 8.
Kass captured the 10th indoor All-American honor in the history of Stockton Women's Track & Field and the program's first in a running event. She joined three-time indoor All-Americans Kim Marino (pole vault) and Chelsea Vaughan (pole vault), two-time indoor All-American Lisa Shepherd (high jump) and 2020 indoor All-American Jessica McRae (triple jump) on the Stockton list.

Stockton Tops Utica 9-3
The baseball team a 3-3 tie with six runs in the last two innings on March 14 for a 9-3 victory over Utica University. That was the second win in a row for the Ospreys. Nick Avagnano led Stockton with his first career four-hit game.
Avagnano went 4-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Cooper Fiore was 2-4 with a triple, run and RBI. Jordan Nitti contributed two hits, three runs and an RBI while Max Kaplan notched two hits and two RBI.
Stockton Earns Seventh Straight Win, 16-4
The women鈥檚 lacrosse team took the early lead with three goals in a four-minute span and a 16-4 victory on March 14 over Virginia Wesleyan. It was the seventh straight for the Ospreys and kept them unbeaten on the season.
Mary Meduri scored a game-high five goals and dished one assist for six points. Lucy Sullivan tallied three goals and four assists for a game-high seven points. Eight Ospreys scored at least one goal in the rout.
Campbell Named to D3hoops All-Region First Team
Senior DJ Campbell was to the D3hoops.com All-Region 4 First Team for the 2023-24 season. The D3hoops.com all-region honors are in their 23rd year. Campbell now will be a candidate for D3hoops.com All-America recognition.
Campbell received his third straight D3hoops.com All-Region 4 award and second First Team accolade. He previously was a First Team selection in 2022 before collecting a Second Team spot in 2023.
Campbell added the all-region nod to NABC District 4 First Team and NJAC First Team kudos this year. He also was selected NJAC Player of the Week three times during the season.

State Deadline for Students to Apply for Aid is May 15!
It鈥檚 FAFSA time! Please encourage your students to complete their 24-25 FAFSA by
May 15!
Anyone who received the State of NJ Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) and/or the Stockton Promise
in the 23-24 academic year must complete their 24-25 FAFSA by May 15 in order to be
considered for any type of state funding and for the Stockton Promise in 24-25. This
deadline was extended from April 15 for this year only.
No FAFSA by May 15 = no state aid or Stockton Promise consideration
Students can file at by logging in with their FSA ID. The Office of Financial Aid is hosting FAFSA Filing
Assistance sessions throughout March and April. Students can sign up for a one-on-one
session by visiting .
