A Wing Auditorium
Stockton College’s original design for the campus included a small auditorium in the first four wings. That auditorium – A Wing Lecture Hall – hosted public lectures and community events, larger classes, and faculty meetings.
The original auditorium, built by 1972 when the College opened the Galloway campus, had 224 seats and a projection booth upstairs in the rear. But as the student population grew this space became too small. In 2009 the lecture hall was completely redesigned. More seats were added to the lower level and the projection booth was turned into a large balcony which had its own entryway. When finished, the Elizabeth B. Alton Auditorium, renamed for one of the College’s founders, had expanded from 4,800 to 6,000 square feet and boasted 276 seats, a raised stage, and updated audio visual equipment. The first events in the renovated space were lectures by Professors William Daly and Yitzhak Sharon.
Today, Alton Auditorium is one of several spaces on campus available for events and it remains a popular venue for university gatherings.
